Background[]

Wolverine is a major superhero and perhaps one of the most popular Marvel Comics character in existence. He was created by Lein Wein and John Romita, Sr., debuting in The Incredible Hulk #180 which was published in October of 1974.

He was originally intended for as a one-shot guest character however he ultimately reappeared as a recruit for the X-Men in 1975 where the character made his mark and would shock comic readers around the world for his anti-heroic tendencies and willingness to kill his enemies and he would emerge one of the key members of the X-Men throughout its varied incarnations and regarded as one of the central reasons behind their enduring popularity and success.

His soaring popularity led him to guest-star in numerous other titles and series as well as starring in his own comic series and his inclusion into the Avengers.

A mutant blessed or cursed with an extended life span thanks to his healing factor, Wolverine is a veteran of several wars and outlived or survived numerous loves having lived well over a century. In the late 20th Century, he was tortured and experimented upon which fused the unbreakable adamantium alloy to his skeleton, transforming him into a nearly unbeatable warrior gifted with razor sharp claws that can cut through anything. The process however left him with the raging ferocity of a berserker beast and amnesia regarding much of his now lost history.

Wolverine continues to be regarded as one of the key figures of the X-Men Franchise and has been adapted numerous times in various TV series and animated and live-action films.
