Way back on Hollywood & Beyond’s predecessor site of Screened; I used to be a fairly avid reviewer of various TV series and films.  Unfortunately, with the closing of the site, we lost most of all of that data.  I have looked around and tried to recreate a Reviews Section for our Wikia but it appears to be a bit difficult.  I’m not a programmer and most of Wikias don’t seem to carry that sort of thing.

So, I’m starting this blog where I will cover my old reviews—updated a bit. It’s been a while since I posted them after all.  I also hope to add in new stuff here and there as well.

Basically, these blogs contain my opinion of the various films and I hope to progress to specific TV episodes of various series.  This is another attempt to try and diversify our website and attract new readers who will be inspired to watch the stuff and hopefully, be inspired to add to our wikia.

I will be including a brief plot synopsis or highlights of important details so there will be spoilers. It will also contain my general impressions; what I thought was good, what was bad, what I thought needed work about the plot; the actors/characters; visual effects; soundtrack; etc. And what I thought could have been improved upon or what I would have done instead.

At the conclusion of each review; I will be including a REPORT CARD. I will be using the basic A to F letter grading system; A for Superior, B for Excellent, C for Average, D for Dismal, and F for Failure.

It will include a breakdown of:

STORY / PLOT : Was the story good or at least entertaining? Was the plot logical or make no sense?

CHARACTERS / ACTORS : Were the actors convincing in their roles? Did they perform adequately?

CINEMATOGRAPHY / ANIMATION / SPECIAL EFFECTS : How good were the special effects or animation? Did they do a good job in the various stuntwork or action sequences?

SOUND / MUSIC : Was the music good enough to help the story along? Or was the music so damn iconic and inspirational that you remember it even after the film/tv show is finished?

Basically not every movie/tv show is good at everything. Some will be overwhelming good in one singular thing while others will be failing across the board and a rarefied few will be uniformly excellent throughout.

Finally, I will give an overall score. I’m still using the 5 STAR Rating System of Screened.  It’s what I’m familiar with.  This is my own personal usage and interpretation of the Rating System so bear with me.

0 star rating
  • 0 STARS : Junk. A piece of horrible crap that you will regret and agonize over the fact that you will never get back the time you wasted watching this.
1 star rating
  • 1 STARS : Didn't like it. The makers tried but failed to interest me. There are some minor redeeming qualities to it but overall, it’s not something I’d bother to pay money for.
2 star rating
  • 2 STARS : Fair to Okay; if you have nothing else to do and want to kill some time... then this is perfect for you. A cheap rental that you can kill some brain cells with.
3 star rating
  • 3 STARS : Mediocre to Decent. This is something that I think is average bordering on the cusp of keeping in your library for guilty rewatching purposes.
4 star rating (2)
  • 4 STARS : Really, really Good. You are definitely missing out if you don't see this. Overall, it is definitely worthwhile with outstanding qualities in performances or special effects that is great. It will blow you away and will rank as one of your favorite films or TV episodes.
5 star rating
  • 5 STARS : The Best of the Best! You HAVE to go and see this! The rarest of the rare, the true gems of such brilliance that it will rank as one of the defining films or TV episodes of all time. Basically this is the stuff you have to see before you die.
