Sylvester "Sly" Stallone ( b. 6 July 1946 ) is an American actor, writer, director, and producer. He has appeared in live action stage theater, television and cinematic roles; and voice acting performances. He is well known for his deep gravely voice and mumbling as well his sculpted muscular physique which contributed to his notoriety as an action star icon.

Sly Stallone is regarded as a quintessential American success story; rising from poverty as a struggling actor into becoming one of the critically acclaimed box office star appearing in a number of the highest grossing films in history ― several of which he is also credited with having written and directed.

Stallone has an extensive career spanning six decades and is well known for his starring roles in a number of films however he remained indelibly connected and best known for his breakout role of the underdog boxer Rocky Balboa of the hugely successful Rocky Franchise. He also wrote the screenplays for six of these films, co-wrote a seventh, and directed two of them as well.

He is also known for his roles as the PTSD traumatized Vietnam veteran John Rambo of the Rambo Franchise and Barney Ross of the Expendables Franchise and is credited with co-writing all of the films involved in both series as well and directing several of them.

Part of his distinctive characteristic has always been his slightly slurred speech. It is not an affection but an actual physical impediment; there were complications during his birth and obstetricians had to use a pair of forceps to remove him. The procedure accidentally severed a facial nerve which left part of his lip, chin, and tongue slightly paralyzed.

Dislikes his name of Sylvester and has long gone by the nickname of "Sly".

Was well known for his extended rivalry with fellow action star Arnold Schwarzenegger for over 20 years with both actors constantly trying to out-do each other in their films and their subtle and not-so-subtle digs at one another. Schwarzenegger subsequently revealed that he had tricked Stallone into accepting a terrible script and agreeing in starring in the box-office flop Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot.
