Overview[]
Smokey and the Bandit is a 1977 American produced action-comedy-romance film starring Burt Reynolds, Sally Field, and Jackie Gleason. It was directed by Hal Needham. The film was considered a sleeper hit and resulted in several sequels and made-for-TV films.
A couple of good ol' Southern boys and bootleggers make a bet to run a truckload of contraband beer across several state lines in 28 hours. Seems simple enough. Except for when Bo "Bandit" Darville picks up a runaway bride as a hitchhiker who is running away from her would-be groom, the dim-witted son of the irascible Sheriff Buford T. Justice! And now, the Bandit finds himself in one of the craziest and most outrageous high-speed pursuits of all times with one of the craziest Smokey determined to catch him!
