Overview[]
Serenity is a 2005 American produced sci-fi space western film starring Nathan Fillion, Summer Glau, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. It was written and directed by Joss Whedon. It was a continuation and sequel to the cult TV series, Firefly and received positive acclaim by critics and winning a number of awards including the Hugo Award, the Prometheus Special Award, and the Nebula Award. It however did fairly poorly in the box offices; barely exceeding its budget.
In the 26th Century; mankind has left Earth-That-Was and now traverses the stars. Controlling the various terraformed worlds of this frontier is the tyrannical Alliance who have crushed the only resistance, a group of fringe worlds known as the Independents. They have unimaginable wealth, technology, power, and military dominance over the entire 'Verse. No one can stand up to them. No one can possibly destroy them. Well ... almost no one.
Her name is River Tam. And she possesses a secret. A secret so terrifying, so startling, and so powerful that it could topple the seemingly invincible Alliance and destroy their entire galactic civilization. They only have to kill her first and are in relentless pursuit of her last sanctuary; a dilapidated Firefly-Class freighter transport Serenity crewed by a motley group of smugglers and outlaws who specialize in minding their own business and running.
But the Alliance has finally raised the stakes too far when they begin killing anyone and everyone that the crew of the Serenity knows and loves. They're about to find out what will happen when the Serenity decides it's time to stop running ... and time to start fighting back. It's time to misbehave.
