Overview[]

R2-D2 is a feisty astromech droid that was manufactured by Industrial Automaton. He is C-3PO's constant companion, and has many questionable gadgets to aid his friends.

Background[]

It has been centuries since Automata Galactica and Industrial Intellect merged together to form the corporate juggernaut known as Industrial Automaton. Although they have numerous other droid product lines and models in service throughout the Galaxy; none is more famous, none is more adored, and no other droid continues to make them a recognized household name as their greatest triumph, the R2 Astromech Droid.

Up until Industrial Automaton took over the field, astromech droids were monstrous towering service mechanics which remained in the engine rooms of capital starships. Their breakthrough P1 Astromechs were a revolutionary breakthrough that was quickly followed with the R1 and ultimately with the R2 Astromechs that has continued to make them as the dominant manufacturers in the field without any serious competition.

Personality and Traits[]

A short squat diminutive droid that only stands 0.96 meters tall. The main body of R2-D2 is cylindrical with a dome head that can rotate 360 degrees.

Due to the fact that R2-D2 is a mechanical and utility droid, his product line has never been equipped with an expensive vocabulators. Instead, he uses an information-dense vernacular of beeping, whistling and chirping known as "Binary" or "droidspeak".

  • Although known for making appearances in most of the Star Wars films and TV series, R2-D2 and his fussbudget companion C-3PO actually have had a cameo appearance in George Lucas' other major franchise, specifically Raiders of the Lost Ark. It's a hidden joke that in one of the scenes with Indiana Jones, several of the hieroglyphics show the distinctive droid and his companion. It's not the first time either, he's been shown as part of the symbols on the Ship in Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
