Overview[]

On Her Majesty's Secret Service is a 1969 British produced action-thriller espionage film starring George Lazenby, Diana Rigg, and Telly Savalas. It was directed by Peter R. Hunt and is the sixth James Bond film in the Eon Productions film series. It was based on the Ian Fleming novel of the same name and is considered one of the most faithful literary adaptations of his work.

Following the first retirement of Sean Connery from the titular role of the British secret agent, Eon Productions cast the unknown George Lazenby as his replacement. Although a financial success, the film and its titular star of George Lazenby were heavily criticized at the time of its release with many of them centered around him as a less than satisfactory replacement of Connery. Over the decades however, many critics have softened their original stance against this film and it has credited as one of being one of the best and most popular Bond films ever.

James Bond is about to face his greatest challenge yet! He's not only up against SPECTRE's latest scheme to terrorize the world but having to do it by marrying into one of the world's biggest crime families into order to win their trust and uncover their secrets! This may very well be his most unforgettable battle against the despicable Ernst Blofeld ... and perhaps his most personal one yet. It's just another day on the job for 007 as part of Her Majesty's Secret Service.

  • The outspoken George Lazenby criticized several of his co-stars and the producers during the filming of this movie, even going so far as to state that he personally believed that the secret agent fad was over. Despite having a contract in place for seven more movies from Eon Productions, Lazenby publicly resigned and even refunded his advance for the next picture proclaiming that he no longer wanted to do the part even before the shooting of On Her Majesty's Secret Service was completed.
