Overview[]
In the not so distant future, the Robinsons are a family of space colonists chosen by their government to establish a new planetary colony and relieve the pressures of overpopulation. But an enemy agent, Dr. Zachary Smith attempts to sabotage their ship, the Jupiter II only for his unplanned excess weight to throw the ship hopelessly off course. They are now forced by circumstances to work together to survive while being lost in the unforgiving depths of space...
One of the earliest science fiction TV series, Lost in Space was considered only a middling successful series during its run and often drew comparison to NBC's Star Trek despite the fact that both series creators professed that their creations were very different.
The series was abruptly cancelled and many believe the fact that the budget demands of each episode was the primary cause behind the network's decision. Lost in Space however remains a sci-fi cult classic and numerous catch phrases have become part of pop culture.
There have been several attempts at reviving the series and a live action feature film adaptation, Lost in Space was released in 1998.
