Background[]

Kevin Bacon ( b. 8 July 1958 ) is an American actor, director, musician, and producer. He has appeared in live action stage theater, television, and cinematic roles; and voice acting performances. He also co-founded a music band, "The Bacon Brothers" with his brother Michael which he performs in.

Bacon is known for his roles as both leading men and smaller character roles. In fact, he is so renowned for his extensive and prolific filmography that it has resulted in a popular meme known as "Bacon's Law" which correlates that "anyone involved in Hollywood can be casually linked to Kevin Bacon".

A movie/tv trivia game, "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" even emerged from this concept where players are challenged to create the shortest chain between an actor and Kevin Bacon―the one who creates the shortest link between the pair being the winner. Bacon himself originally disliked this meme and thought it was mocking his career but has since come to enjoy the notoriety by embracing and popularized it.

Bacon is best known for his role as the rebellious teenager Ren McCormick in the 1984 box office smash hit Footloose. The role however resulted in him being typecasted for years and caused him to struggle to shake off this image by taking on radically different roles afterwards. He is well regarded for his performances in Tremors; Apollo 13; Hollow Man; Mystic River; Crazy, Stupid, Love; and The Woodsman.
