Idris Elba ( b. 6 September 1972 ) is an English actor, DJ, singer, rapper, director, and producer. He has appeared in live action stage theater, television, and cinematic roles; and voice acting performances. He is well regarded as being one of the most influential and highest grossing British actors.
Elba is best known for his performances in The Wire; as the titular star DCI John Luther of Luther which he won a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor; and in the biopic film Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.
