Home Alone is a 1990 American produced holiday family-comedy film starring Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, and Daniel Stern. It was directed by Chris Columbus. Although panned by many critics, the film was overwhelmingly popular with audiences and commercially one of the biggest blockbuster movies of all time. It successfully launched the Home Alone multimedia franchise of several video games and sequel films. This film is regarded as Macaulay Culkin's breakout role.
It's holiday season and that means all of those annoying relatives whom you ignore for the rest of year come over and make your life miserable! Precocious eight-year old Kevin McCallister is sulking because the entire house of swarming with his relatives and leaves him wishing that he was all alone for his Christmas present. But when his Christmas wish is granted, Kevin is thrilled! But he soon finds himself in trouble with a pair of neighborhood thieves who have their eyes set on his house and he's all alone...
Plot[]
It's Christmas time and everybody is excited for the holiday season. Particularity Harry Lime and Marv Merchants, two aspiring burglars who love this time of year which is filled with the vacant homes of rich families with all sorts of stealable loot.
Such as the McCallisters; their entire extended family is planning for a great Christmas holiday overseas in Paris. Everyone that is except for 8-year old Kevin, who is one of the youngest and most put upon by his older siblings and cousins. The precocious Kevin would greatly prefer to be alone this holiday season without all of his annoying relatives around.
On the night before the McCallisters are to leave for Paris, Kevin gets into a fight with his relatives and is sent to the attic bedroom as punishment. Kevin angrily tells off his mother proclaiming that he wishes that his whole family would disappear.
He gets his wish when in the rush and confusion to get to the airport on time, the family ... miscounts the number of children and accidentally leaves him behind.
But while his new found freedom is thrilling at first, Kevin soon begins to realize that he misses his family more than he thought. Meanwhile, his frantic family discovers that the high volume of international travelers prevent them to making it home for days.
With Harry and Marv lurking around to loot the neighboring houses, Kevin discovers that his house is next on the list and it's up to him to stop them! It's a battle of wits unlike anything you've ever seen!

- John Hughes specifically based the whole film on Macauley Culkin's performance in his 1989 film Uncle Buck where he interrogates a babysitter through a mail slot.
- Joe Pesci scarred Macauley Culkin while filming during the scene where he stuck Culkin's fingers into his mouth and accidentally bit him.
- John Candy improvised all of his lines and performance in the film.
- The movie that Kevin watches on video tape is not a real film, but a specially created clip called "Angels With Filthy Souls" and was a homage of an old 1938 movie Angels with Dirty Faces.
