George Lucas ( b. 14 May 1944 ) is an American director, producer, screenwriter, actor, and philanthropist. He has appeared in live action television and cinematic roles and cameos; and voice acting performances.

He is primarily known for his innovative storytelling and work as a filmmaker. He is widely considered to be one of the most influential and important filmmakers of the 20th Century alongside such legendary figures as Francis Ford Coppola; Brian De Palma; Steven Spielberg; and Martin Scorsese.

Lucas is singularly responsible for the creation of one of the most financially successful and popular film franchises of all time; the Star Wars Franchise. He also co-created the Indiana Jones Franchise with his long-time friend and fellow director Steven Spielberg.

Lucas also founded Lucasfilm Ltd.; LucasArts; and Industrial Light & Magic (ILM). He also co-founded THX, Ltd. and has helped sponsor and support several philanthropic campaigns dedicated to the arts and education, helping support initiatives that provide discount internet broadband funding to schools and libraries in the United States.
