After gaining superspeed in a freak accident, police scientist Barry Allen secretly employs his powers as the urban vigilante known only as the Flash!
The Flash was a short-lived American produced action adventure superhero TV series starring John Wesley Shipp and Amanda Pays.
It was an adaptation of the long running DC Comics hero, the Flash; specifically the second and most recognized character, Barry Allen who was created by Robert Kanigher and Carmine Infantino in 1956. Ironically enough, at the time of this TV series was created, the character had run off the mortal coil of the DC Comics; having died helping save the universe in 1985.
Although named and being heavily based on Barry Allen, a number of elements used in this series was drawn upon the third and then-active Flash, Wally West who had also been Barry Allen's sidekick and forced to take up the mantle of his predecessor following his death. However the extremely prohibited special effects costs and low ratings ultimately drove this TV series to be rapidly cancelled. Both primary stars of this series, John Wesley Shipp and Amanda Pays however would return as guest stars in different roles in the revived Flash TV series in 2014.
Police scientist Barry Allen is accidentally struck by lightning and hurled into a rack of chemicals and discovers that he has gained the power of superhuman speed along with strange side effects that leave him frightened.
At first, Barry wants to be normal and struggles to learn more about what has happened to him with the help of beautiful scientist Dr. Christina McGee. But when his brother is murdered by criminals, Barry decides to use his new found powers to avenge him as the Flash.
