Trivia[]

  • Was once close friends with David Bowie but the pair had a falling out in the 1970s and never was able to repair their friendship during Bowie's lifetime. Elton John did make a special musical performance as an apologetic tribute to the late rock star's memory.
  • Very shy and uncomfortable about his appearance, he took to wearing oversized glasses to partially hide himself as a teenager even though he didn't actually need them. It soon became part of his iconic rock star persona with huge and outlandish spectacles. However years of wearing such glasses took its toll on his eyesight and now he needs to wear them with corrective lenses.
  • Is one of the very few and rare EGOT entertainment elites; meaning that he has separately won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony Award. Among his fellow EGOT winners are such legendary figures as Audrey Hepburn, Mel Brooks, John Legend, and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Quotes[]

  • "Music has healing power. It has the ability to take people out of themselves for a few hours."
  • "The great thing about rock and roll is that someone like me can be a star."
