Overview[]

Dr. No is a 1962 British produced action-thriller espionage film starring Sean Connery, Ursula Andress, and Jack Wiseman. It was directed by Terrence Young and is the first James Bond film in the Eon Productions film series and is based on the Ian Fleming novel of the same name.

Dr. No was the first 007 film and was legendary in launching the longest running film series franchise in history as well as the career of its lead actor, Sean Connery. It is credited with transforming the British super spy into a super icon of pop culture which has been imitated and satirized over the decades ever since.

MI-6 sends one of their top agents, James Bond to investigate the mysterious death of another agent in the tropical island paradise of Jamaica. But he is about to find himself enmeshed in a plot of astonishing and disturbing implications of global domination. Trivia[]

  • The author Ian Fleming was originally quite dismayed with the choice of Sean Connery in the role of his secret agent; Bond was English and Connery was Scottish, Bond was upper-class and Connery was working-class, Bond was refined and educated and Connery was too rugged. However after seeing Dr. No, Fleming proclaimed that Connery was perfectly cast. A number of Fleming's future 007 books would in fact, draw inspiration from Connery as James Bond was retroactively proclaimed to be of 'Scottish' ancestry.
