Overview[]
Deadpool is a 2016 American produced superhero Ryan Reynolds, Ed Skrein, Morena Baccarin, and T.J. Miller. It was directed by Tim Miller.
Deadpool is an adaptation of the unconventional fourth-wall breaking Marvel Comics character who has costarred and headlined in the long-running X-Men and various spin-off comic book series since the 1990's. The film was considered a spin-off film of the 20th Century Fox X-Men film series and was a phenomenal financial and critical success, cementing the primary star Ryan Reynolds as a major action star.
It resulted in a pair of sequels; the first being Deadpool 2 released in 2018 by Fox. However, the second suffered from delays thanks to Fox being acquired by Disney and the filming rights to the characters having to be addressed. The third film Deadpool & Wolverine was subsequently released in 2024 as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Wisecracking freelance mercenary Wade Wilson is diagnosed with cancer after becoming engaged to his hot girlfriend Vanessa. Offered a potential cure by signing up for a risky and unconventional medical procedure, Wade instead finds himself the hapless subject of horrendous torturous experiments run by the sadistic Ajax. Horrifically scarred but now possessing immortality, dubious sanity, and a dark sense of humor, Wade adopts the costumed identity of "Deadpool" even as he seeks to find Ajax and a cure for his condition in the vain hope that afterwards, he can reunite with Vanessa.
