U-Wings are troop transports used by the Rebel Alliance.

Overview[]
Although Incom Corporation is infamous for their connection to the Rebel Alliance with their legendary X-wing starfighters, the shipwrights made a number of other innovative ship designs before they were nationalized by the Galactic Empire. The U-Wing was in fact, the last ship that Incom ever released before the Empire seized their assets. Only a handful of these troop transports were built and strangely enough, all of them "fell" into the hands of the Rebellion through some fantastic clerical error.
Although technically a support and landing craft capable of ferrying small quantities of troops onto battlefields, the U-Wing was also a surprisingly adept and sturdy gunship and its secondary role after dropping off troops was to provide airsupport and cover fire for them. Rebel Captain Cassian Andor favored the use of a U-Wing for his missions.

History[]
With a sterling reputation for manufacturing highly reputable, durable, and extremely capable starships and airspeeders dating back over 200 years; the Incom Corporation was one of the premiere shipwrights of the Old Republic. Their designs including the venerable Z-95 Headhunters and the ARC-170 Starfighter build during the Clone Wars.
The UT-60D U-wing Starfighter/Support Craft was intended to be yet another of their triumphs with Incom beginning to ramp up for a full scale production run of these starships when another of their revolutionary designs, the T-65 X-Wing caught the attention of the paranoid Imperial Security Bureau and convinced Emperor Palpatine to nationalize Incom Corp, pointing out that the long standing corporation had a number of pro-Rebellion leanings. Learning of Palpatine's plans, Senator Bail Organa quietly arranged for a shipment of the U-Wings be "lost" even as he passed word of the Empire's intentions to Incom.
