Created by French author Victor Hugo in 1831, "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" is considered to be a key part of French Gothic Literature and is credited with inspiring the nascent historical preservation movement and resurrecting gothic architecture as an artform. He has inspired countless of adaptations, paraodies, and imitators ever since.
