The show takes place in Albuquerque, New Mexico, between 2008 and 2010. Breaking Bad follows Walter White, a struggling, frustrated high school chemistry teacher who transforms into a ruthless kingpin in the local methamphetamine drug trade, driven to provide for his family financially after being diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer. Initially making only small batches of meth with his former student Jesse Pinkman in a rolling meth lab, Walter and Jesse eventually expand to make larger batches of an extremely pure, blue meth which creates high demand. Walter takes on the name "Heisenberg" to mask his identity. Because of his drug-related activities, Walter eventually finds himself at odds with his family, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) through his brother-in-law Hank Schrader, the local gangs, and the Mexican drug cartels (including their regional distributors), putting him and his family's lives at risk.
Desperate to secure the financial future of his family, wife Skyler and son Walt Jr., he quits his second job at a car wash and teams up with his former student Jesse Pinkman, now a drug dealer known as Cap'n Cook, to make and sell crystal meth for profit.
Season 2[]
Jesse and Walt escape and are hiding nearby when Hank approaches Tuco and kills him in a shootout ("Grilled"). To cover for their disappearance, Walt fakes amnesia and is hospitalized while Jesse removes meth evidence from his house, persuades Badger's cousin, Clovis, to tow away the RV, and gets himself arrested.
Season 3[]
Walter is forced to move to an apartment and comes clean about manufacturing meth to Skyler White, who promises not to divulge his criminal activities if he grants her a divorce and keeps his distance. Jesse Pinkman, meanwhile, emerges from rehab changed by Jane Margolis's death.
Season 4[]
Gus, Tio, and Tyrus are blown to pieces. At the superlab, Walt arrives and kills Jesse's captors. He and Jesse torch the lab, leaving no more evidences behind. Later, Jesse tells Walt that the common plant Lily of the Valley poisoned Brock, not ricin.
Season 5[]
Mike's lawyer and the nine prisoners are killed under Walter's orders. The meth production runs profitably for months. Skyler makes another effort to convince Walter to give up his criminal life, and Walter ultimately relents after realizing they now have more money than can even be counted.
