Bill Murray ( b. 21 September 1950 ) is an American comedian, writer, and actor. He has appeared in live action stage theater, television, and cinematic roles; and voice acting performances.

Renowned for his improvisational comedic abilities and deadpan sardonic wit, Murray first came to prominence for his extended role for writing and starring in various comedy sketches on the Saturday Night Live TV series. He is also known for a number of his film roles in Meatballs; Caddyshack; Stripes; and Groundhog Day.

He is however best known for his co-starring role as the skeptical Dr. Peter Venkman in the Ghostbusters Franchise.

Despite his fame as a comedian, Murray has also branched out into more dramatic and serious roles over the years and has earned several accolades and awards for his roles in Rushmore; Lost in Translation; and Olive Kitteridge.
