The Big Bang Theory was a long-running American produced sitcom TV series starring Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik, and Melissa Rauch. It was a highly rated and multi-award winning series during its series run.

The Big Bang Theory or TBBT was originally intended to focus on the characters of Leonard Hofstader and Penny as played by Johnny Galecki and Kaley Cuoco; but the series is best known for its breakout character of Sheldon Cooper as portrayed by Jim Parsons. The popularity of the later character resulted in a ongoing spin-off series, Young Sheldon released in 2017.

Sheldon Cooper	A child prodigy who graduated from college at the tender age of 14, Sheldon Cooper is the senior theoretical physicist at CalTech and is a gigantic nerd. Highly idosyncratic and incapable of grasping fundamental social skills and behavior; Sheldon has a huge ego particularly in regards to his intelligence ... and since he has an IQ of over 187, he has a fairly huge narcissist admiration for it as well as himself. Everyone else including his own family is convinced he's utterly nuts while he's busy driving everyone around him crazy. He was portrayed by Jim Parsons. Considered the breakout character of TBBT, Parsons won four Emmy Awards for his performance as Sheldon Cooper as well as several other commendations, The enormous popularity of his character resulted in a spin-off prequel TV series Young Sheldon which focuses on his comedic trials growing up with Iain Armitage starring as his younger self with Parsons serving as as an adult narrating the series.
Leonard Hofstadter	Sheldon's long suffering roommate, Leonard Hofstader shares many of his interests in comic books, video games, and sci-fi tv shows ... and somehow managed to pass through several arduous challenges to win the right to live as Sheldon's roommate and somehow has also managed to resist the urge to strangle Sheldon as well. He falls headlong over heels in love with his new neighbor, an aspiring actress Penny and seeks to win her affections. He was portrayed by Johnny Galecki.
Penny	An aspiring actress who moved from Nebraska to California, the perky Penny winds up working as a waitress at the Cheesecake Factory to pay the bills while she's waiting for her big break. Penny then breaks up with her longtime boyfriend Kurt to move into a new apartment across the hall from a pair of geeky scientists. She was portrayed by Kaley Cuoco.
Howard Wolowitz	A Jewish aerospace engineer who also lives with his mother; Howard fancies himself as a ladies' man and tries (often unsuccessfully) to pick up women with his sleazy one-liners. He is friends with Rajesh Koothrappali and Leonard Hofstader ... and is tolerated as an associate by Sheldon Cooper who continually mocks him by the fact that Howard does not have a doctorate's degree like the rest of them. He was portrayed by Simon Helberg.
Rajesh Koothrappali	A particle astrophyscist from India, Rajesh is also best friends with Howard Wolowitz and often acts as his "wingman". Unfortunately, Raj suffers from acute pathological shyness around women and is unable to speak at all in front of them. He was portrayed by Kunal Nayyar.
Amy Farrah Fowler	Chosen by an online dating website as the "perfect" match for Sheldon Cooper unknowingly by a prank by Raj and Howard; Amy Farrah Fowler is a neurobiologist who shares his utter cluelessness over social interactions and humor to the point where Sheldon can tolerate her presence and her mostly self-appointment as his "girlfriend". She has also self-appointed herself as Penny's best friend ... which is also news to Penny. She was portrayed by Mayim Bialik.
Bernadette Rostenkowski	A co-worker of Penny's at the Cheesecake Factory, Bernadette finds herself set up as a date to Howard Wolowitz and the two unexpectedly hit it off thanks to their mutual frustrations with their overly interfering maternal figures in their lives. Alhough sweet and friendly most of the time, she also has a meanstreak and is overly competitive and slightly intimidating. She was portrayed by Melissa Rauch.

Plot Summary[]

Season 1[]

*Two Nerds Meet Live Woman; Leonard & Sheldon meet Penny for the First Time*

Introverted Leonard Hofstadter and his roommate, the physics prodigy and OCD neurotic Sheldon Cooper find that the apartment next door has a new occupant. They are subsequently introduced to Penny, a perky farm girl from Omaha who makes her living as a waitress at the Cheesecake Factory while attempting to break into showbiz. Leonard immediately becomes hopeless enamored with the beautiful young actress/waitress while she becomes platonic friends with him and learning to tolerate his few but incredibly eccentric acquaintances along the way.

They include the sex-crazed horny Jewish engineer and mama's boy Howard Wolowitz with his 1960s hairstyle, clothing, and pickup lines; the painfully shy astronomer Rajesh "Raj" Koothrappali who suffers from extreme mutism in the presence of women, particularly attractive women like Penny; and of course, Sheldon Cooper who is an overly arrogant, narcissistic, overly inflated intellectual who has a pronounced lack of understanding human emotions and sarcasm.

Meanwhile Penny is struggling to cope with a recent bad breakup with her old boyfriend Kurt finds herself diving into the dating pool of Pasadena, California and promptly hits her head in the very shallow pool; meanwhile Leonard struggles to confess his feelings to her.

The group inadvertently discovers that Rajesh can speak to women when under the effects of alcohol. However, the more alcohol he drinks, the more obnoxious he becomes.

And the entire group finds themselves struggling to cope with Sheldon's ever increasing OCD tendencies and deranged tendencies to try and comedically force the world to follow his viewpoints. Finally, frustrated her lack of finding a decent boyfriend, Leonard is able to convince Penny to try going out with him. Penny admits that Leonard is far from the regular sort of guy that she usually dates, it might not be such a bad thing considering her lack of success in that area...

Season 2[]

Leonard and Penny's brief attempt at starting a relationship has crashed and burned faster than the Space Shuttle Columbia. But getting back to being merely platonic friends is awkward. Meanwhile Penny realizes that she has changed from her interactions with the quirky group and has become increasingly closer to all of them, even the whack-a-doodle Sheldon Cooper even briefly suffering from video gaming addiction to cope with her stalled acting career.

Leonard pursues a number of relationships with several women but can't seem to completely let go of his romantic interest in Penny. Finally, Sheldon receives an unexpected offer to stay at the North Pole in order to perform several physics experiments which might prove string theory and decides to invite Leonard, Howard, and Raj to be a part of his team. Mainly because adjusting to anyone more qualified would be incredibly stressful for him! As Leonard departs for the three month-long expedition, Penny tearfully realizes that she will miss him...

Season 3[]

Returning home from their Arctic Expedition; the gang watch as Leonard and Penny joyously reunite and begin dating. But their relationship is difficult enough to manage without the bumbling interference of Sheldon, Howard, and Raj ... or utter indifference in Sheldon's case. Things become even more complicated when Howard decides to remind Leonard of a pact that they made years ago involving their girlfriends, ie. Penny. And so Penny soon finds herself compelled to try and set one of her friends up on a date with Howard Wolowitz. But who does she dislike enough to inflict Howard Wolowtiz on?
