Overview[]
The A-Team is a 2010 American produced action-comedy film starring Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Quinton Jackson, and Sharlto Copley. It was directed by Joe Carnahan and is a film adaptation of the popular A-Team TV series that ran from 1983 to 1987.
Lt. Charissa Sosa is in hot pursuit of four Iraq War veterans, one of whom is an ex-flame of hers. Dishonorably discharged and sentenced to military prison, the quartet promptly escaped and are now on the run. But Sosa comes to suspect that there is more to the story and their court martials than meets the eye.
Trying to catch these renegades is going to be lot harder than she expected. Because they just aren't any regular military veterans but the elite of the U.S. Army Special Forces. The Special Forces of Special Forces. Men who specialized in doing the ridiculously impossible and making it look easy. They are ... the A-Team.
And for the men who treacherously framed them are about to discover ... there is no where that they can hide, no one who can protect them. Because the A-Team has never been more dangerous or more ferocious when they are a group of men who don't have anything to lose.
Plot[]
Colonel John "Hannibal" Smith is the man with the plan. He's a strategic genius who leads his men from the front and has assembled the ultimate team of soldiers from master infiltrator, expert scrounger, legendary womanizer and con artist Templeton "Face" Peck; an incredibly skilled mechanic and driver whose skills behind the wheel are only exceeded by his fists B.A. Baracus; and "Howling Mad" Murdock, an ace pilot whose skills are as great as his tenuous grip on his sanity. They were the best.
Then they were framed as war criminals and traitors; sentenced to military prison. Bad idea. For the men who framed them. Because they promptly escaped and are out to prove their innocence.

Reception[]
The A-Team had a special screening on June 3, 2010 at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles. It officially premiered on June 11, 2010 in 3,535 theaters nationwide and grossed $25,669,455 on its opening weekend. It rose the number 2 slot of the most popular weekend movies but was unable to break the rival premiere of The Karate Kid.
The A-Team would play for an additional 14 weeks, falling rapidly and steadily in the rankings and would already be knocked out of the Top 10 ranks by its sixth week before ending at the 66th rank when it closed out of theaters. It total, it earned $77,222,099 domestically in the United States with an additional $100,016,697 from foreign markets. It thus earned back its product budget costs but was only regarded as an average box office performance.
The film only earned mixed reviews from critics who claimed it "overlong, overblown and utterly forgettable" and "for better and for worse, Joe Carnahan's big-screen version of The A-Team captures the superficial, noisy spirit of the TV series". Overall, it earned a "47% approval" rating on the Rotten Tomatoes website and Metacritic gave it an average score of "47 out of 100".
Of the original TV series A-Team cast members, Dirk Benedict who played the original Face; had a brief cameo in the film and also went on to negatively criticized the film. Benedict in particular was led to believe his cameo would be more meaningful proclaimed; "You'll miss me if you blink. I kind of regret doing it because it's a non-part. They wanted to be able to say, 'Oh yeah, the original cast are in it,' but we're not. It is three seconds. It's kind of insulting."
Mr. T who originally portrayed B.A. Baracus allegedly stated that he had become disillusioned and felt the story emphasized sex and violence, and that it was unfaithful to the original series. He later retracted that statement, claiming to being unable to comment on the film having not seen it.
Dwight Schultz who played "Howling Mad" Murdock also had a brief cameo in the film and had the most neutral response, "pays homage to the series while it eschews its essential working premise: a band of capable military brothers for hire determined to save underdog and usually poor civilians from scum ... the team characters are sufficiently different and, with so many roles reversed from the original, one could say they are not really derivative, save for their names."
The film did win a Taurus World Stunt Award for their stuntwork in 2011.
The A-Team would be released on DVD and Blu-Ray with an extended director's cut which had Dirk Benedict and Dwight Schultz's cameo scenes re-inserted into the film.
