ALL POSTSDivergent Trilogy is getting 4 films instead of 3
<p>Harry Potter and Deathly Hollows Part II, what hath thou wrought? It seems these days that every successful YA franchise since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 2 needs to have its last book split into 2 parts whether it needs it or not. And with the success of the Divergent film, it appears this trend will not be fading anytime soon. This latest announcement from Lionsgate states that the last Divergent book, Allegiant, will have 2 parts opening on March 18, 2016 and March 24, 2017 respectively. The book in question has about 544 pages according to Amazon, which is not too bad when you compare it to The Hobbit (around 400-500 pages across 3 movies). Still, I think 2 movies for a book of 544 is a bit excessive when all is considered.

<p>Is Divergent worth watching? I may check it out on DVD, but I haven't seen anything that makes me want to shell out $9.00 to see in theater.

<p>After watching the trailer above, I see nothing worth watching. But I can see how teens and pre-teens will love it. They will no doubt relate to the plight of the main female character etc. Another cash-in on the young adult fiction trend just bores me to death.
</p><p>But getting to your point, I also dislike this desire to split a novel into two or more movies. It's a shitty cash-in and the story can often suffer because it gets spread too thinly and ends up dragging.
</p><p>And for the record, my copy of The Hobbit is 365 pages. I don't know if the page count has varied between editions because of font size or whatever but it's certainly not a book that can justifiably be spread across three films. I watched the first Hobbit movie and was dissapointed and have no desire to see parts 2 and 3 until they show them on TV.
</p><p>Doing a trilogy for Lord of the Rings made perfect sense because that is a huge book. My copy has 1077 pages.

<p>Well, if you aren't into the whole Hunger Games romance thing, you won't like this one. Reading the first book, I felt that story was like the Hunger Games, but with more YA romance to the point where it stalled the story. Although, I have heard from critics that the relationship between the protagonist and the hot guy is the best part of the movie.
</p><p>As for the Hobbit page count, I ball parked that one since I was too lazy to look it up. lol. According to my copy of "The Hobbit," my book has about 306 pages.
